About me

Hello, my name is Helen, and I am an integrative counsellor offering a warm, safe, and confidential space where you can feel heard and supported without judgement. My approach is down to earth and compassionate, focusing on helping you make sense of what feels confusing or overwhelming so that you can move towards greater understanding and self-acceptance.

I believe that therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, honesty, and genuine connection. A strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful change; it provides the foundation from which growth, insight, and healing can happen. I will listen closely, reflect gently, and offer perspectives that may help you to see things in new ways. At times, therapy can feel challenging, but it can also be deeply rewarding and transformative. My role is to walk alongside you, offering stability and compassion as you take steps toward the life you wish to live.

As a Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity (NCFED), I have advanced, specialist training in helping people explore and recover from eating disorders and disordered eating. This qualification is recognised by the British Psychological Society and the Royal College of Psychiatrists for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and it represents one of the highest levels of expertise available in this field. I also draw on Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E), which is a leading evidence-based approach for eating disorders, as well as psychodynamic, person-centred, and mindfulness-based methods.

Alongside my private practice, I work as a counsellor for an eating disorders charity and as a bereavement counsellor and supervisor for a national organisation. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of both loss and recovery, and of the strength and vulnerability that accompany them.

Before training as a counsellor, I spent many years working in education as a modern languages teacher. My background in teaching has shaped the way I work; patient, thoughtful, and always curious about each person’s unique story.

I am committed to ongoing professional and personal development, regularly undertaking further training in areas such as trauma awareness, mindfulness, socratic questioning and gender and neurodiversity inclusion. I take an anti-discriminatory, LGBTQ+ affirmative, and neurodiversity-affirming stance, and I continually reflect on my own assumptions to ensure that my practice is inclusive and respectful of all identities and experiences.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I work in accordance with both organisations’ Ethical Frameworks for Good Practice, which means that my work is grounded in professionalism, confidentiality, and respect for client autonomy. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate, full professional insurance, and receive regular supervision to maintain high standards of ethical practice and client safety.

Above all, I believe that we all have an inner capacity for growth, healing, and change. My aim is to provide a space where you can safely explore your inner world, rediscover your strengths, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that feel hidden or unheard.
